About Kassandra Mayhew, AMFT, APCC

Therapy is an inherently intimate experience that can lead to deeper understanding, meaning-making, and profound change. Maybe you’re here because of a significant loss, relationship challenges, or difficulties at work or school. My approach integrates relational, psychodynamic, somatic, multicultural, narrative, and strengths-based perspectives. I have training toward certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), which means I incorporate awareness of the body and nervous system to help process trauma, stress, and overwhelm. In session, we work collaboratively, recognizing that change is ongoing and non-linear, and that partnership creates a safe harbor to begin addressing your needs and goals.

I enjoy working with adults, teens, couples, and families. I have several years of experience with grief, bereavement, crisis, and family integrated counseling practices, along with 10 years of experience as a communications strategist for companies, organizations, and publications. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Marriage and Family Therapy. Drawing from my diverse professional background, I have a deep understanding of how overwork, burnout, financial stress, and identity tied to career can affect day-to-day well-being.

I am a biracial, first-generation Visayan Filipina American, born and raised in San Francisco and Oakland. In my early adulthood, I lived in Northern and Western Europe and New York City, where I spent most of my 20s. Missing the natural beauty of California and creative culture of the Bay Area, I returned in 2015 and have resided here since. I also have a background in classical ballet (now a reformed ballerina), media arts and studies, creative writing, and literature, which informs how I understand expression and the human experience. Today, it is an honor to bring all of these experiences into my work as a therapist.
